During this blog hop, those with blogs who participate will post about our favorite writer, book or our reading habits. Plus, there are giveaways!
So, who is my favorite author? That's a difficult one. Of course, there's the old standby, Stephen King, who's a genius with character development and creating, in the very least, interesting storylines. He, along with Octavia Butler, are most influential to my own writing.
Octavia Butler wrote science fiction, one of the few, if not the only, Black women science fiction writers. My favorites among her titles, are Wild Seed and Clay's Ark from the Patternist Series. Wild Seed is about a nearly immortal body changer, who kills his hosts by reflex... or design, and the woman, a shapeshifter, who challenges his existence. Where as Clay's Ark is about an alien infectious disease that threatens human existence.
As I think back, Butler's characters from Wild Seed, Doro and Anyanwu, were very influential in my creating Thomas and Alezea, the main characters in my first novel, Anticipation of the Penitent. Thomas is a serial killer raised by Satan. His mother, Alezea, is trapped in a life of sin under Satan's control, and seeks God to save her son.
